Studio Art
6th Grade
Students will focus on:
- Introduction to Elements of Art and Principles of Design
- Exploration of a variety of art mediums (materials)
- Proper use, safety, care, and conservation of art materials
- Development of art vocabulary, knowledge of art history, and understanding in artistic criticism
- Develop and refine artwork for presentation
- Introduction to careers in the field of Visual Arts
- Project Units may include Observational Drawing, Still Life, Landscape, Abstract Art, Pointillism, Egyptian Inspired Art, Portraiture, 2D Design, and 3D Sculpture
7th Grade
Students will focus on:
- Identify and Apply Elements of Art and Principles of Design
- Artmaking skill building with various mediums, methods, and techniques in creating works of art
- Development of art vocabulary, knowledge of art history, and understanding in artistic criticism
- Develop and refine artwork for presentation
- Identify and explore careers in the field of Visual Arts
- Portfolio Development
- Project Units may include Observational Drawing, Still Life, Landscape, Abstract Art, Street Art, Color Theory, Native American Inspired Art, Portraiture, Figure Drawing, Perspective, 2D Design, and 3D Sculpture
8th Grade
Students will focus on:
- Identify and Apply Elements of Art and Principles of Design
- Artmaking skill building with various mediums, methods, and techniques in creating works of art
- Utilize art vocabulary, knowledge of art history, and understanding in artistic criticism when discussing artwork
- Develop and refine artwork for presentation.
- Identify and explore careers in the field of Visual Arts
- Portfolio Development
- Visual Arts High School Audition Preparation (for students interested in attending a Visual Arts Program for High School)
- Project Units may include Observational Drawing, Shading/Value Project, Still Life, Landscape, Abstract Art, African Inspired Masks, Self-Portrait, Figure Drawing, Perspective, Yearbook Cover Design, Color Theory, Printmaking, 2D Design, and 3D Sculpture
